The first full week of June is Pet Appreciation Week. It was started in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), an organization that teaches pet parents best practices. While we enjoy having cats and dogs in our lives, it’s pertinent that we show them appreciation. Why? It can strengthen our relationship with them and prevent poor behaviors. Keep reading for ways you can celebrate your fur-baby this pet appreciation week.
Buy Them A New Toy
Can our pets have enough toys? We don’t think so! Add some color to their toy chest with Metro Paws Tennis Balls! Our pet-safe tennis balls were made with your pets in mind; they feature natural rubber, cotton yarn, and are made without harmful petrochemicals. Plus, they’re available in regular and mini sizes and 5 different colorways. Check them out today!
Have A Cat? Try Metro Paws Bliss!
Studies have shown that more cats respond to Silvervine than regular catnip, which is why we created Metro Paws Bliss Stix and Metro Paws Bliss Nip. Our organic Silvervine goodies encourage cats to be playful and can aid in their dental and digestive health.
Take A Quality Walk
The key word here is “quality”. We’ve all had those busy days where we take our pups out to use the bathroom and bring them back in immediately. We suggest that you make time for a walk in a new neighborhood to give them mental stimulation, or perhaps an easy hike depending on your pup’s physical health. Don’t forget to bring your walk essentials: the USA-made compostable Metro Paws Poop Bag Case and eco-friendly Metro Paws ULTRA Degradable Poop Bags.
Let Them Pick Out Treats
Head to a local store with your pup for a little shopping spree. Let them walk around to pick out a treat or new toy. Click here for local independent stores near you. We suggest calling ahead to make sure that they allow fur-babies inside.
Make Homemade Treats
Pet Appreciation Week and June are the pawfect time for you to try your hand at homemade doggie ice creams. We love spoiling them and knowing what ingredients are in their food. If you ever have questions about your pet’s diet, be sure to speak with your veterinarian first.
Don’t Forget Shelter Pets!
Shelter pets deserve our love too! You can donate your time or money to your local shelter or rescue. You can also check out Love & Licks Foundation GOOD KARMA Poop Bags. These degradable waste bags are better for the planet and a portion of proceeds go to no- and low-kill shelters nationwide.
Now that we've given you some ideas for how you can spoil your pet this Pet Appreciation Week, let us know in the comments how you plan to celebrate your fur-baby this week!
