Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. The weather is warming up, the days are getting longer, and we want to spend as much fun time with our dogs as possible! If you don’t have plans for Memorial Day Weekend, here are some ways you and your pup can have fun this holiday!
Dog-Friendly Things You Can Do
Visit a Dog-Friendly Beach
Does your pup love running along the shore or even swimming in the water? Our dogs sure do! Going to the beach can help both you and your pup cool down on warm days. Can’t head to the beach, visit a friend with a pool!
Take a Hike or Nature Walk
What's spring without a hike? We're big fans of the outdoors and our pups are too! It's nice to take a drive out of the city to visit a local national park or trail.
Go to an Outdoor Mall
Want to take advantage of the clear sunny days but have errands to run? Visit an outdoor mall. You can stroll with your pup and may even go home with some goodies for the both of you.
Hit Up the Dog Park
Is your pup a social butterfly? Take them to a dog park! They can make new four-legged friends and run around within a safe fenced area.
Have A Picnic or Barbecue
Gather with friends, loved ones, and others pups for a delicious meal, fun games, and memory-making. There are some precautions that you should take as a pet parent whenever you have a picnic or barbecue, so read more of that here.
Important Things to Remember
No matter what you decide to do this Memorial Day Weekend, here are some important things to remember when it comes to the safety of your fur-baby.
Plan Ahead
Make sure where you’re going is in fact dog-friendly. There have been occasions where we’ve gone to a restaurant with a patio only to be told that dogs are not allowed. If you’re driving over half an hour to a park or beach, it would be frustrating to hear you cannot enjoy it with your pup. Head to BringFido.com for a quick dog-friendly travel guide.
Regardless of the time of year, as responsible pet guardians, we should always ensure that our pets’ microchips are up to date. Read more about that here.
Stay Cool
Although we love the warm weather, we do need to be mindful that our pets have access to water and shade. We don’t want them suffering from heatstroke or dehydration. Read up on preventing heatstroke and how to keep your pet hydrated for Memorial Day Weekend and every warm day this spring and summer.
Make sure you also stay hydrated this summer with our large metal-insulated Metro Paws Adventure Water Bottle, which can keep 33.8 ounces of liquids cool for long periods of time.
Bring Your Pet Essentials
No matter what the season, it’s important to bring your essentials along! Always remember to pick up after your dog; keep our USA-made compostable Metro Paws Poop Bag Case filled with Metro Paws ULTRA Degradable Poop Bags attached to your leash. After every adventure, you’ll probably want to wipe down there paws with our alcohol-free and paraben-free Metro Paws Pet Wipes (the 25-count packs are great to keep in your car or bag).
And if you’re driving to a fun hike, consider the Metro Paws Adventure Box, which includes poop bags, grooming wipes, a collapsible water bowl, and more!
For your pets, time with you is the best time in the world. Whether you’re frolicking on a dog beach or cuddling up on the couch, your pup just wants to be by your side. Remember to have fun and enjoy the time that you have with them.
