Pet-Friendly Thanksgiving Foods
Thanksgiving is always a time where big meals are made to eat with family and friends, so why can’t our pets be included in these traditions? Even though not all of our favorites can be eaten by our pets, here are some things they will love to make it an extra special holiday for them as well.
Turkey
Pets can have plain white turkey meat with no skin, bones, or seasonings. When making the dinner turkey, save a little for your pup or kitten without the skin, bones, or seasoning, so they can enjoy it just as much as you do. Turkey is a good source of protein that also supports muscle, bone, and overall health, so it is the perfect addition to their dinner.
Vegetables
Plain cooked vegetables without any seasonings are a great way to share the Thanksgiving love with them as well. This can be any of your favorite holiday vegetables including sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, broccoli, peas, or corn off the cob. They provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber which support pets digestion and overall health. Just like vegetables are good for humans, they are also a great choice for animals.
Dessert
For dessert, give your pet some plain, unsweetened canned or cooked pumpkin. They have to steer away from the typical pumpkin pie as it is not safe for them to eat, but you can top their pumpkin with some easy homemade dog safe whipped cream to make it extra special for them. Giving them pumpkin is the perfect way to balance off their meal because it is nutrient rich and high in fiber supporting overall pet health.
Your pets deserve to be in a food coma at the end of the night just as much as you do. Even though there are slight restrictions to what is safe for them, they will be extra happy with the holiday, but also giving them a change for what they typically eat in a healthy way.
