August 15th is International Homeless Animals Day, a day that highlights the countless strays who have yet to find their fur-ever home. This day also sheds light on the importance of adopting, and not shopping. In honor of this special day, we’ve created a list of some ways you can help animals in need this August 15th. Because every action can change a pet’s life.
Number One: Adopt
If youve been thinking of getting a dog or cat, we encourage you to head to your local shelters and adopt one there. Many shelters are at maximum capacity, meaning some animals unfortunately have to be euthanized due to overcrowding. Choosing to adopt your fur-baby might just save their life. Adoption is the responsible choice. Also, many breeders or pet stores have many unsafe and unethical practices in how they take care of these animals. Supporting them is indirectly supporting the harm of the innocent animals.
Number Two: Volunteer
If you can’t handle the responsibility of adopting an animal right now, that is totally okay. If you have some spare time, think about heading to your local shelters to volunteer. You can volunteer your time to play with them, clean up, or take them on walks. Any time spent with humans allows these shelter animals to become more comfortable with people, readying them for their future homes. It also gives them some nice time spent away from the shelter.
