Ease Vet Trips for Your Cat
August 22nd is National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! This day reminds all cat parents of the importance of taking their cats to routine check-ups. If your cat is not a big fan of going to the vet, it’s important to do things that can help them feel comfortable. We’ve compiled a list of some things you can do to make vet trips more enjoyable for your feline friend!
First off, you don’t want your cat to associate their carrier with negative experiences or feelings. So, a few days or weeks before their visit, bring their carrier out and put some of their favorite treats or bedding inside. Leave the carrier out and let them curiously look around. Having the carrier out will help your cat associate it with a positive space that they are comfortable with.
If your cat struggles with the car ride, it’s a good idea to practice short car rides before the appointment. Get them used to the motion of being in the car, as well as the routine of being placed inside the car. It might take a couple of practice runs before they acclimate, but it’s definitely something worth trying for your cat’s comfort.
If your cat is a bit more on the antisocial side, it might be a good idea to pack some treats for the vet team to use to gain your cat’s attention and trust. This will help your cat be comfortable with their vet team, ultimately leading to a more positive experience for the feline.
Be sure to stay on top of your cat’s routine check-ups. It can help prevent any illnesses or diseases and ensures your kitty is as safe as can be!
