Indoor Fun For Cold Days

Indoor Fun For Cold Days

With winter in full swing, the days are much shorter, and the weather is colder. But your pets still have just as much energy! Here are some easy ways you can help them get rid of that energy indoors, keeping you both entertained and happy.

Toy Hunt

Pets love to sniff everything. Every new or old smell is exciting to them, so let them continue exploring scents inside! Create a toy hunt for them to enjoy. Start with hiding toys in plain sight around one room to introduce the idea, then make it slightly more challenging by tucking them under a blanket. Once they’re fully engaged, you can adjust the difficulty depending on your pet’s skill level.

Treat Dispensing Toy

When you’re working from home or tidying up the house, your pet might constantly look for attention, especially in the winter when they can’t run around outside as much. A treat dispensing toy is a great way for them to entertain themselves, stay mentally stimulated, and practice problem solving. You can even make a DIY version using common household items. Check it out here.

Indoor Digging

Dogs love to dig, and that instinct doesn’t disappear just because they’re inside. To safely satisfy that urge, create a fun digging spot indoors. Pile up durable blankets and towels, then hide a few treats or toys throughout the layers. Your dog will love the challenge of finding them while staying warm and clean, no mud or cold paws required!

Skills and Tricks

Use this extra indoor time to revisit old tricks or teach your pet new ones. Going over simple commands like "Sit," "Stay," and "Come" helps keep them sharp and focused. If they’ve mastered the basics, try adding fun tricks like "Shake," "Skip," and "Roll Over." Training only takes a few minutes a day, but gives them mental stimulation, builds confidence, and strengthens your bond.

Even when the weather keeps you both inside, there are plenty of ways to make the most out of it. Some creativity goes a long way to keep your pet active, happy, and stimulated all season long. Grab some treats, turn on the heat, and make the winter a time for fun, learning, and extra snuggles with your furry friend.
