There is a hearing on September 15 at 11:30 A.M. at Room 252 in the New York County Courthouse to vote on off-leash hours at Riverside Park..  If the Upper West Siders are to  prevail, Riverside Park be able to join the ranks of other other leash NYC parks from 9pm-9am.

We at MetroPaws.com welcome you to join  other dog owners at 11:15 at the NY County Courthouse, the larger the outcome, the better the possibility of Riverside to become an offleash park.

A little backgound about the situation started back In 2003 when about  60 dog owners  instituted a class action, Grayson v. Parks Department of the City of New York, New York Supreme Court, New York County, challenging the legality of these bans fabricated by the Parks Department to specifically target Riverside Park.  The judge gave conditional approval to the Parks Department to enforce these off-leash bans, but recognized that the First Amendment of the Constitution required that dog owners be given adequate notice of these gerrymandered bans in open space areas.

The site of the hearing, the New York County Courthouse, 60 Centre Street, Room 252, is a large white building located immediately south of the intersection of Worth and Centre Streets, and just north of the United States. Courthouse.  It can be easily reached by taking the #2 or #3 express trains at 72nd Street and Broadway downtown to the fourth stop, Chambers Street.  The subway ride to get there takes about 8 minutes, and the walk after, leaving the subway, is about 10 minutes at a leisurely pace.
Please come down & support the ever-growing need for dogs and their owners to enjoy the NYC parks!
